An unusual boar-tusk netsuke with a stag in a mountain landscape
By Seiyodo Gansui (1809-1848), Iwami Province, dated 1830
The large tusk carved in relief with a barking stag standing on a crag beneath an ancient pine tree, signed Oju toki ni Bunsei jusan kanoe-tora fuyu jugatsu Matsudaira Suo no kami ko Iwami-shu (Iwami-no-kuni) Enokawa no nishi Seiyodo Gansui chokoku (carved west of the Eno River in Iwami Province, to the order of Lord Matsudaira, governor of Suo Province, by Seiyodo Gansui in the thirteenth, kanoe-tora year of Bunsei [1830]). 13.2cm (5¼in).
