An ebony netsuke of a crab on a rock
By Shukuto, Iwami Province, early 19th century
The small crab with one pincer pulled in towards its body, resting on the top of a high rock which bears distinctive striations, signed Iwami-shu (Iwami-no-kuni) Enokawa Seiyodo no otoko Shukuto chokoku (carved by the Eno River in Iwami Province by Shukuto, son of Seiyodo). 4.2cm (1 5/8in).
