A boar-tusk netsuke with a centipede
By Seiyodo Tomiharu (1733-1810), Iwami Province, dated 1796
The tusk of shallow curve, carved in relief with a centipede walking along the narrow end, its body undulating and its legs partially undercut, signed Iwami-shu (Iwami-no-kuni) Enokawa Seiyodo Tomiharu kyonen rokujugosai shite kore o chokoku toki ni Kansei hinoe-tatsu no aki nari (carved at the age of sixty-five by the Eno River in Iwami Province by Seiyodo Tomiharu in the autumn of the hinoe-tatsu year of Kansei [1796]) with a seal Tomiharu and a pot seal. 10.2cm (4in).
