A buffalo-hoof netsuke of a cicada

By Seiyodo Tomiharu (1733-1810), Iwami Province, dated 1794
The cicada resting on a section of driftwood, from which grows the stalk and foliage of a kohone plant, signed Iwami-no-kuni Enokawa Seiyodo Shi Tomiharu kyonen rokujunisai shite kore o chokoku toki ni Kansei kinoe-tora natsu nari (carved at the age of sixty-two by the Eno River in Iwami Province by Seiyodo Shi[mizu] Tomiharu in the summer of the sixth, kinoe-tora, year of Kansei [1794]). 8.5cm (3 1/8in).
