An umoregi (bogwood) netsuke of a frog on a log
By Seiyodo Tomiharu (1733-1810), Iwami Province, late 18th/early 19th century
The small frog squatting athwart the long log, its head slightly raised looking ahead, as if about to leap, the bark of the rotten log carefully rendered, contrasting with the polished ends, signed Sekiyo Enokawa Seiyodo Tomiharu chokoku (carved by Seiyodo Tomiharu by the Eno River in Sekiyo). 6.5cm (2 5/8in).
