A boxwood netsuke of a frog on a taro leaf
By Seiyodo Tomiharu (1733-1810), Iwami Province, late 18th/early 19th century
The striped frog of lightly-stained wood squatting on a folded leaf, the textures of the skin of the frog contrasting with the veining of the large leaf which are rendered in ukibori, the eyes inlaid, signed with ukibori characters Ishikawa Seiyodo Tomiharu horu (carved by the Ishikawa River by Seiyodo Tomiharu). 6.4cm (2½in).
