By Tomimura, probably Iwami Province, 19th century
The tusk of pronounced curvature, delicately carved in kebori with Benkei and Yoshitsune (Shanao) engaged in their epic duel on the Gojo Bridge, when the giant monk was defeated by the lithe young hero, signed in reisho style Tomimura shi (Mr Tomimura). 11.5cm (4½in).
