An ebony and stag-antler netsuke of a crab on an awabi (abalone) shell
By Seikan, 19th century
The ebony abalone with the edge of the underside lined with iridescent shell, the removable stag-antler crab on top forming the himotoshi, signed Hachijussai kore o saku Fujima Seikan (made by Fujima Seikan at the age of eighty) with a kao. 4.9cm (1 7/8in).
