An ebony netsuke of a centipede emerging from driftwood
Iwami Province, dated 1805
The large insect crawling over a horizontally striated weathered large piece of driftwood with an overhanging section, the underside polished and rather worn, inscribed with partially illegible ukibori characters Bunka ni kinoto chuka ... (mid-summer of the second, kinoto, year of Bunka [1805] ...) with two seals. 8.5cm (3 3/8in).
