A wood netsuke of a recumbent horse
Attributed to Tachikawa Senshiro Tomitane (Takusai) (1817-1887), Suwa, Shinano Province, mid-late 19th century
Lying with its head tuned back to the left, its legs drawn in for compactness and its tail sweeping forward over its left flank, the wood stained and eyes inlaid, signed Tachikawa to (carved by Tachikawa). 4.5cm (1¾in).

The Tachikawa group of carvers is another that was thought at one time to have come from Iwami Province, although it is now known that they were resident in Suwa in Shinshu, Shinano Province.
