By Jikan Ganbun, Kyoto and Edo, late 19th century
A large worm-eaten mushroom over which a snail in pale horn and pewter slides, overlapping a smaller ebony fungus applied with two gilt-metal ants, signed Ganbun saku (made by Ganbun) with a kao. 4.2cm (1 5/8in).
