An ebony netsuke of an eagle clutching a monkey

By Kanman (1793-1859), Iwami Province, early 19th century
The large eagle perched, facing ahead with a stern expression, grasping a terrified monkey, the eyes of both animals inlaid in horn, signed Iwami-no-kuni Kanman (Kanman of Iwami Province). 7.3cm (2 7/8in) high.
