An ebony netsuke of a tree frog on a mushroom
By Kanman (1793-1859), Iwami Province, early 19th century
The frog squatting with its hind legs bent, as if about to leap, on the underside of a large mushroom, its thick stalk trailing to the side, the frog's eyes inlaid in crystal and dark horn, signed Iwami-no-kuni Kanman to (carved by Kanman in Iwami Province) with a kao. 6.7cm (2 5/8in).
