By Kanman (1793-1859), Iwami Province, early 19th century
The terrapin with a long trailing tail walking across the layered section of wood, its head extended and turned to the right looking up, the eyes inlaid in horn, signed Iwami-no-kuni Kanman to (carved by Kanman in Iwami Province) with a kao. 6.9cm (2¾in).
