Important Beryl var. Aquamarine and Muscovite

Nagar, Gilgit District, Northern Areas, Pakistan
While a number of aquamarines from this region have appeared on the market in recent years few can compete with the outstanding aesthetics of the present display specimen. The large hexagonal crystal of aquamarine has a fine sea-blue color, its transparency for such a large specimen is exceptional, and the sides are lustrous and the crystal edges are crisp. The well-executed trimming of the muscovite matrix serves to counterbalance the visual appeal of the crystal—forming a "golden triangle"; the large well-formed bladed muscovite crystals are remarkably intact considering their size and their gray color and luster serve to heighten the drama of the specimen. A fine specimen, worthy of consideration by the most serious collector. Measuring 9 1/2 x 10 x 4 in (24.1 x 25.4 x 10.2cm)

Offered on a custom-fitted Lucite display base.

Provenance: Bonhams, Los Angeles, Natural History, April 30, 2008, Sale 16422, Lot 9238.
