A Meissen tureen and cover, circa 1735

Of panel-moulded oval shape, modelled with twin goat's head and scroll handles, the domed cover rising to a pinnacle with a finial in the shape of a crown, the rim and a band around the cover moulded with gadroons, a band of simple leaf motifs around the foot all heightened in gold, the reserved panels painted with figures in landscapes and Kauffahrtei scenes in colours, the white ground with additional baroque scrollwork motifs also enamelled in colours, between bands of intricate gilt scroll decoration, the finial on the cover painted with insects between bands of coloured jewels, 26cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, impressed Dreher's mark of a cross and four dots for Andreas Schiefer (one handle restored, cracked, filled rim chips) (2)
