KELLER, HELEN. 1880-1968.

Typed Letter Signed ("Helen Keller"), to a Mr. Bosqui, soliciting donations for the American Foundation for the Blind, 1 p, 4to, New York, September 16, 1942, on Keller's personal letterhead, fold creases, matted with photo portrait of Keller.

Keller, who lost her sight and hearing at 19 months, campaigned for the rights of the blind as well as for women's suffrage and other humanitarian causes. Here she writes to encourage a philanthropist to donate to the National Foundation for the Blind, using the war effort to bolster her case: "Those wounded on life's battle-fields must be given the chance, for which their thwarted manhood cries out, to take part in our war effort ... At this critical time, their grief is not lack of sight but the hindrances which balk their longing to share in America's struggle for justice and decency."
