Original pen-and-ink drawing, an interior of a baroque church, c.1947, 245 x 195 mm, matted and framed.
Provenance: gift of designer James Amster, who received it from the artist.

Russian-born, Surrealist painter Eugene Berman was a well-known designer of opera and ballet and profoundly influenced Hilary Knight in his early years. Mr. Knight worked for Mr. Amster in the late 1940s. "This was done by Eugene Berman in 1947 (approx) for decorator James Amster where I was employed as artist/designer," Hilary Knight notes on verso.
