A HILARY KNIGHT PAINTED FIRESCREEN, "CAT'S EYE."

Shaped plywood, repainted in gouache and gold paint with a glass eye glued to the surface, 2018, 335 x 470 mm, signed and titled on back.

Around 1985, Mr. Knight came across this white painted wooden stand in a yard sale, and began re-imagining this "found object" as a cat on a cushion. "I began with black out-line drawing of a cat and the glass 'Cat's Eye' about that time....finished it with added color and metallic gold in 2018." He retained its original shape while painting the entire surface, front, back and bottom. He even made the original bolts part of the new design.
