AN ORIGINAL HILARY KNIGHT WATERCOLOR, "STREET PERFORMERS IN RAJASTHAN."

watercolor, ink and pencil mounted on printed paisley papered board, 2007, 510 x 330 mm, signed and dated in orange watercolor lower left "Hilary Knight 2007."

This circus scene is based upon authentic film footage of Rajasthan gypsies taken by Mr. Knight. "I am obsessed with these performers," he explains. "This is my fantasy about these troops of musicians, snake charmers, dancers and acrobats." His life-long fascination with circuses goes back to seeing Billy Rose's Jumbo when a boy in 1935.
