COLLECTION OF ELOISE MERCHANDISE.

Kay Thompson saw immediately the commercial possibilities of Eloise beyond the printed page. She founded Eloise Ltd. to license such products as dolls and other toys, postcards, luggage, records and a clothing line. The Plaza Hotel opened a special Eloise Room that recreated the picture of the little girl's bedroom in the famous picture book. Thompson later regretted it and closed the Eloise Room and pulled all Eloise merchandise as well as the four sequels off the market. After her death in 1998, her estate arranged for the re-release of each of the original Eloise titles and an exclusive limited license with FAO Schwarz to issue new toys. For the only time in its ninety-five years, the famous Madame Alexander Doll Co. literally broke the mold to manufacture their own line of Eloise dolls with a new head based on the Hilary Knight illustrations rather than use their standard model.
