Tracy Beeler once wrote of the present work, "This piece was done for a show in 1981. It is a man from the Pueblo tribe in Northern New Mexico. The title is from the book by a famous New Mexican Indian writer named Frank Waters of the same name, The Man Who Killed the Deer. It is depicting the pride of a modern day Indian choosing to adopt the ways of old by wrapping the braid in flannel and wearing a blanket."1
