A fine and rare gilt rustic branch tripod timepiece with kettle pendulum and glass dome
Thomas Cole for E. White, 20 Cockspur St., London
Date: Circa 1860
Movement: The train between tapered plates joined by four screwed cylindrical pillars, Brocot escapement mounted on subplate above, pendulum in the form of a silvered lidded cauldron with rating nut on the rod, No. 1637 punched on front plate
Dial: Oval, within bent twig bezel, roman chapter ring on scroll engraved ground enclosing central rosette, blued fleur-de-lys hands
Case: Realistically modeled twigs forming a tripod supporting the dial, movement and roller suspension for pendulum, on circular gilt base raised on bun feet, a conforming velvet pad with central applied gilt mock campfire
Size: 20 ½ in (52cm) high excluding dome
Accompaniments: glass dome
