A PARTIALLY COMPLETED 3 1/2-inch GAUGE EXHIBITION MODEL OF A RAILWAY STEAM CRANE, Stothert & Pitt,

the 0-4-0 chassis has cast side frames and steel buffer beams. Both front and back axles are powered by bevel gears from the crane above, handwheels either side control brakes. The swivelling steam crane chassis supports the elevating riveted brass jib. The four shafts consist of the main cable drum forward with a cast iron cable and brake drums. The top shaft is worm-driven and the cable drum carries two gun-tackle cables shackled back to the swivel. The central shaft is fitted with main pinion and four bevel gears with sliding dog clutches. The main cable drum has a similarly clutched drive pinion. The fourth shaft is furnished with a bevel gear for slew control. Finished in green and polished brightwork with black chequer plate, sleepered show track, 25½in (65cm) high, 32in (81.3cm) long
