A SMALL, FULL-SIZE SINGLE CYLINDER HORIZONTAL STATIONARY ENGINE, built by Reading Ironworks, circa 1880,

the overhung cylinder, 2¼in bore x 4½in stroke, is fitted with a two-piece valve chest with governor butterfly valve, main stop valve (dated 1880) and hexagonal screw glands. The piston rod crosshead runs on a slide integrally cast with the main bed with adjustable dovetailed guides. The connecting rod drives a painted forged crank with cast iron eccentrics and straps for the valve and inclined feed pump. Spoked flywheel and governor, arch-bracket mounted. Finished in dark green with polished brightwork, pitch pine plinth, 16½in (42cm) high, 30in (76cm) wide
