A WOODEN CUT-AWAY DEMONSTRATION MODEL OF A SINGLE CYLINDER A-FRAME CONDENSING BEAM ENGINE, built by E. Jekyll Esq, late Grenadier Guards, mid-19th century,

the cylinder mounted on the cooling water tanked base with simulated water level, working eccentric-driven D slide valve and governor butterfly valve. Exhaust steam enters a jet condenser with working injector valve and foot valve. The air pump delivers water to an open topped single acting boiler feed pump with inlet and exhaust valves. Water circulating pump with foot and piston valves and an overflow. All the valves are driven synchronously via a crank shaft cam with string and rocking lever systems. Crankshaft supported on plain bearings and the elegant flywheel is grooved for external drive. Mounted on a mahogany plinth. Maker's plate. Hand painted appropriate to sectioning, valves and water level, 37½in (95cm) high, 42½in (108cm) wide
