A John Farey brass ellipsograph English, circa 1810,

signed Farey London No.18, complete with rack and pinion adjustment, in fitted velvet-line and fishskin covered case, with two small compasses, the instrument 5¼in (13.5cm) x 5½ (14cm)

The first English ellipsograph was designed and made by John Farey in circa 1810 and he used it to draw circular objects in perspective.
