Two wood netsuke

Edo period (1615-1868), late 18th to mid-19th century
The first a quail resting, its head raised on a winnowing basket filled with fruit, the wood of a good patina, unsigned, 4.5cm (1¾in); the second a rat nibbling on a fruit, sitting on an overturned basket, a smaller rat climbing through a hole in the basket, the basket with several fruit with foliage beneath, the eyes inlaid, unsigned, 3.4cm (1 3/8in).
