A 32-Bore Flintlock Travelling Pistol
By Towlson, Marlboro' & Newbury, Circa 1820

With twist octagonal barrel (fore-sight reduced) engraved 'Marlboro' & Newbury' along the top and retaining some original browning beneath, engraved tang, signed border engraved flat bevelled lock decorated with foliage, safety-catch and roller, figured half-stock with chequered rounded butt, trigger-guard with foliate engraved bow, vacant white-metal escutcheon, and stirrup ramrod (light surface rust), Birmingham proof marks
11 cm. barrel

The maker is probably Joseph Towlson recorded in Marlborough, Wiltshire between 1810 and 1830, and in Newbury, Berkshire in around 1829
