An English Silver-Hilted Small-Sword
Retailed By Loxhams, Royal Exchange, London Silver Hallmarks For 1766, Indistinct Maker's Mark, Probably Of John Radburn

With bright sharply tapering blade (some areas of light pitting) of hollow triangular section, the forte etched on both sides with symmetrical designs of strapwork and foliage centred on a sun-in-splendour on an oval, hilt cast and chased with bright-cut stars centred on pierced scrolling foliage within bright-cut and foliate borders, and comprising upturned shaped ovoidal shell-guard, quillon-block, lobed quillons, knuckle-guard, ovoidal pommel with prominent tang button, and grip bound with silver-gilt ribbon and twisted silver wire, in original vellum-covered wooden scabbard with silver locket and chape chased en suite with the hilt, the former engraved with retailer's details on one side, and with a ring for suspension
