Three Indian Chahar Ayneh Plates, A Persian Dhal And Bazu Band, And A Pair Of Stirrups
18th/19th Century

All of steel, the first of rectangular form slightly curved to the body, the outer surface with brass-inlaid central cartouche of arabesques framing the basmalah in thulth, the two top corners inlaid in silver with the nada'ali quatrain each within a border of brass-inlaid arabesques, the outer borders with silver-inlaid call to God to bless the Fourteen Innocents in thulth and within brass-inlaid double line borders, and retaining its brass-inlaid buckles (outer reinforcing strips incomplete); the second forming a pair and of similar form to the last, the outer surfaces deeply etched with Persian verses in four panels divided by cartouches chiselled with symmetrical arabesques and retaining some gold-damascening, the outer borders chiselled and gold-damascened with running arabesques en suite (some wear and rust patination); the dhal and bazu band each of characteristic form, the outer surfaces etched with cartouches containing a demon, portrait busts, birds and animals, all against etched foliage and silver-damascened scrollwork, and with borders of etched calligraphy; the last each of arched form with crude brass-inlaid decoration over each side (surface rust and some pitting) (7)
