A Neo-Assyrian pale cream faience lidded pyxis
Circa 9th-8th Century B.C.
Of cylindrical form, with two concentric circles beneath the rim on the exterior, two small loop handles on the interior, one now broken, the lid with two holes for attachment, decorated with a moulded rosette and a central knob handle, with remains of yellow and green glaze, 11.4cm high; 10.7cm diam.

Lieutenant General A.H.L.F. Pitt-Rivers collection, acquired from the above 12 June 1892 (Pitt-Rivers Museum catalogue, vol. 3, p. 830). Recorded as 'found with terracotta tablets and bronze, 15 to 20 feet beneath the surface', and housed in his museum in Farnham, Dorset.
