A lacquered portable zushi (shrine)

Meiji Period
Containing a gilt lacquered wood figure of Amida Buddha on a lotus pedestal, set on a multi-tiered stand, and backed by a kohai (nimbus), the interior of the doors gilded and painted with images of Kannon floating upon wispy clouds. 35.5cm (14in) high.

Acquired by the vendor's father in Japan, when working as a diplomat in the 1930's.
