A pair of pottery figures of horses and riders

Northern Wei Dynasty
Each equine modelled standing four square and in battle accoutrements, the rider seated upright and wearing full armour and helmet, the hands positioned as if to hold a spear and reins, boxes.
Each: 36cm (14 1/8in) high (4).

Provenance: a Swedish private collection, acquired in the early 20th century

The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminescence test no.C117g26 dated 10 August 2017, is consistent with the dating of this lot.
