A rare wucai 'boys' incense burner and Japanese silver cover

The porcelain 17th century, the cover Meiji Period
The cylindrical cup with an integral saucer base, enamelled in iron-red, green and yellow with diaper patterns, cartouches and floral motifs, flanked with two boy servants moulded in the round, facing outwards and holding ring handles as if supporting the vessel, the pierced silver cover with clouds and inscribed 10.3cm (4in) wide (2).

Footnotes

The cover of the present lot is inscribed 橘香堂造 which may be translated as 'Made for the Pavilion of Orange Incense' and may relate to a late 19th century Japanese pastry shop based in Kurashiki in Okayama province.
