A pair of Louis XVI painted beech fauteuils

both chairs stamped: 'SENE, M.E.'
Each with an arched back surmounted by bellflower finials, with channelled frames and a bowfront seat frame, on stop-fluted tapering legs each headed by a patera, each: 54cm wide. (2)

Purchased: Etienne Thuriet, Chartres, 20 February 2010.

Both of the renowned Sene cabinet makers, Jean-Bapiste Claude and Claude II, became maitres in 1769, only five years prior to the beginning of Louis XVI's reign.
