William Sturges-Bourne (1769-1845) born William Sturges in Winchester was the only son of Reverend John Sturges (1735-1807) by Judith Bourne (1732-1776) of Acton Hall, Ombersley Worcestershire. He was educated at Winchester School and later Christ Church Oxford. From 1769 he was Tory MP for Hastings and later for Christchurch and Brandon, Secretary to the Treasury and later Lord of the Treasury. He was for a short time Home Secretary under the leadership of his close friend George Canning.
