The Urwerk UR-1001 "Zeit Device Über Complication" was unveiled in 2011 and represents one of the ultimate collectibles in the realm of independent watchmaking. With this astonishing timepiece, the co-founders of Urwerk, Martin Frei and Felix Baumgartner, bring to life their "horological playground" incorporating a host of their iconic complications, measuring the passage of time in seconds, minutes, hours, day/night, date, month, years, 100 years and even an astounding 1,000 years. The UR-1001 "Zeit Device" embodies the "Zeit" or "epoch-defining time" in German of the 21st century, acknowledging the fleeting passage of time, whilst embracing humankind's daily journey towards the new millennia.

The Urwerk UR-1001 "Zeit Device Über Complication" makes its worldwide auction debut and is one of only 8 pieces ever made. This incredibly rare timepiece is both tactile and visual, and its impressive Aluminum Titanium Nitrade-treated (AlTiN-treated) steel case with titanium elements rests symbolically in the palm of one hand, spanning a sizeable 106 mm in length and 62 mm in width. Adding to the visual feast, circular grooves are engraved into the top of the case hinting at the original circular shape of the case with cut sides. Through the expansive sapphire crystal display, a tantalizing cosmos of Urwerk's signature satellite hour display and flying comet-like retrograde minute hand work in harmony, whilst a new annual calendar function mirrors this system with a satellite month display and flying retrograde date display that adjusts for months with 30 and 31 days. Arcs for power reserve, day/night and 60-seconds indication are interspersed throughout the front dial, denoting the important measures of the current day and moment.

The hinged and ultra-flat AlTiN-treated steel caseback of the UR-1001 "Zeit Device Über Complication" swings open to reveal the "Control Board". At the reverse, Urwerk has built in its 5-year "oil change" indicator to flag a 5-year maintenance and service check. Two additional scales, the 100-year and 1000-year indicators, propel the Urwerk UR-1001 "Zeit Device" into the realm of exceptional, fine watchmaking.
