Footnotes
J.W.Benson,非常稀有銅鍍金大小自鳴報時手動上弦座鐘,備泰文日期及星期顯示、鬧鈴功能及溫度計,約1890年。
This incredibly rare Grande Sonnerie Carriage clock has a most unusual dial, all written in Thai numerals and alphabet. One additional feature is that of the bottom right hand subsidiary dial which represent the Buddhist Moonphases (Uposatha).
Quite probably this clock was ordered as a Royal Commission and in their heyday, J. W. Benson, were responsible for making some of the highest quality clocks at the turn of the 20th Century. There are a few examples of pocket watches made on Royal command with Thai dials, that were manufactured by such esteem companies such as Patek Philippe, and many of them now reside in museums. It is very rare for such a clock to be presented to the market in Asia.
