The Long Valley. New York: The Viking Press, 1938. 8vo. Publisher's oatmeal-cloth backed brown-cloth boards, spine lettered in brown, red topstain, original pictorial dust-jacket by Elmer Hader, lightly rubbed at the joints.

FIRST EDITION. A bright clean copy of Steinbeck's story collection set in his beloved Salinas Valley, containing the first collect appearance of many of his most important stories, "The Chrysanthemums," "Flight," "The Snake," and adding "The Leader of the People" as a kind of coda to "The Red Pony."
