MATTA, ROBERTO. 1911-2002.

Autograph Letter Signed ("Matta") and extra-illustrated in pencil and crayon, 1 p, 8 x 11 in, Mexico, n.d., to Bernard Reiss, float mounted and framed.
Provenance: Descended through the family of Bernard Reiss.

Reiss was the accountant for the Marlborough Gallery in NY. Matta's elegant images reminiscent of flowers take up the bulk of the page, but he also adds cryptic messages at the margins: "My dear Bernard / Mexico is in ruins / This are the stonebirds, voltures in the black son of ausencia / Everything happens on the ether...."
