A JAMES GARFIELD LETTER UPON HIS ELECTION AS PRESIDENT.

GARFIELD, JAMES A. 1831-1881. Autograph Letter Signed ("J.A. Garfield"), as President-Elect, to John C. Robinson, offering a belated thanks for Robinson's telegram, 1 p, 8vo, Mentor, Ohio, November 11, 1880, on letterhead printed only with the place. Laid down onto a blank leaf removed from a book.

PRESIDENT-ELECT GARFIELD WRITES A BELATED THANK YOU IN RESPONSE TO A CONGRATULATORY TELEGRAM. John C. Robinson of Binghamton, New York, was a Brigadier General in the Union Army during the Civil War, receiving the Medal of Honor for leading a charge against enemy positions at Laurel Hill, Virginia in 1864. He later served as Lieutenant Governor of New York and was President of the influential Grand Army of the Republic.
