JOHNSON, ANDREW. 1808-1875.

Portrait carte-de-visite, c.1870, 100 x 63 mm, with small portrait photo in the center recto above the inscription The Guardians [of] Our Country, with two other unidentified very small portraits at the bottom; photographer's stamp of H.C. Lesher, St. Thomas, Pa on verso. Handling wear, especially to corners.
WITH: Engraved portrait with facsimile signature in plate at lower margin, 160 x 128 mm.

The inscription "The Guardians of our Nation" (the word "in" is either faded to obscurity or lacking), and tiny portrait thumbnails below that, possibly of William Seward and Edwin Stanton, suggest that this card was made shortly after the assassination of Lincoln.
