JFK'S STRIPED NECKTIE.

Black silk necktie with stripes of red, yellow and white, by Jordan Marsh, approximately 450 mm in length (as folded), mounted in a shadowbox frame. A label affixed to the back of the framing states "One of John F. Kennedy's personally-owned and -worn neckties...."
Provenance: David F. Powers; sold Camelot: 50 Years After Dallas, RR Auction, Boston, October 24, 2013, lot 21.

JFK's sense of style was undoubtedly a component of the charisma that propelled him to the Presidency. He can be seen wearing many different neckties in photographs, often with diagonal stripes such as this. Jordan Marsh was an upscale department store chain based in Boston, with stores throughout the Northeast. It changed hands several times and ended up under Macy's ownership in 1996, at which time the Jordan Marsh name was retired.
