A SWATCH OF FABRIC FROM JFK'S FAVORITE ROCKING CHAIR.

KENNEDY, JOHN FITZFGERALD. 1917-1963. Fragment fabric from J.F.K.'s rocking chair, patterned fabric, approximately 15 x 40 mm, framed in a presentation with a photo of Kennedy in the rocking chair, and a White House bookmark. Matted and framed.
Provenance: Mr. & Mrs. Larry Arata, employees of the White House furniture shop, 1961 (fabric); Evelyn Lincoln, Presidential Secretary (bookmark).

Kennedy evidently found that the rocking chair gave him comfort for his chronic back pain. When asked by a reporter if he was taking his rocking chair to the White House with him, he replied "whither I goest, the rocker goest."
