JACQUELINE KENNEDY'S GOLD BROCADE SHOES.

A pair of gold-brocade evening shoes belonging to Jacqueline Kennedy, worn by her on the Kennedy's fabled trip to Paris in 1961, size 10aa, silk with gold brocade front, short wooden heel.
Provenance: Jacqueline Kennedy; John J. "Muggsy" O'Leary, Secret Service agent to the Kennedy's ; Jane Abbate (letter of provenance, with additional note from Kennedy secretary Evelyn Lincoln); The Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection; sold Camelot: 50 Years After Dallas, RR Auction, Boston, October 24, 2013, lot 35.

"I AM THE MAN WHO ACCOMPANIED JACQUELINE KENNEDY TO PARIS ... AND I HAVE ENJOYED IT." When the Kennedys visited Paris in May-June 1961, it was not JFK's meeting with De Gaulle that made the headlines ... it was Jacqueline Kennedy's love affair with the people of Paris. The French newspapers celebrated her style and her fluency in French, and when she appeared at a state dinner in a Givenchy dress with a hairstyle rooted in 14th-century French style, the seduction was complete. These understated and elegant gold brocade shoes were worn by Jackie during that trip, which helped establish her as the icon of American style.
