REAGAN'S "A TIME FOR CHOOSING" TELEVISION SPEECH.

REAGAN, RONALD. 1911-2004. Roneo typescript signed ("Ronald Reagan") titled "Ronald Reagan -Television Speech October 27, 1964," 4 leaves, 4to, margin of the first leaf signed by Ronald Reagan in ballpoint pen, some small nicks and short tears to the margins, old staple holes at upper left corner.

"You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man's age-old dream – the maximum of individual freedom consistent with law and order – or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism."

"THE SPEECH" WHICH LAUNCHED REAGAN INTO NATIONAL PROMINENCE. Made in support of the Goldwater-Miller Republican ticket, Reagan sets out his belief in the importance of smaller government. When it was published soon after, it was called "A Time for Choosing" speech. The speech was well received and it is said that it raised $1 million for Goldwater's Campaign, but above all it put Reagan on the political map, moving from a fading actor to a politician. Soon after this speech, Reagan was asked to run for Governor of California, which he won in 1966.
