EISENHOWER ON ARMING THE FRENCH TROOPS AND SUCCESS IN TUNISIA.

EISENHOWER, DWIGHT DAVID. Typed Letter Signed ("Dwight D. Eisenhower"), to General Henri Giraud, thanking the French General on the conduct of French forces in Tunisia, 1 p, 4to, on Allied Force Headquarters letterhead, May 10, 1943, with a typed translation into French, attached to the original letter with a straight pin. Fold creases, rust stains around pin.

Following on the success of the ANFA conference, and encouraged by victories in Tunis and Bizerta, Eisenhower sends a letter of encouragement to Giraud rejoicing in their combined Tunisian success. Upbeat and genial, amidst struggles to equip and arm troops, Eisenhower employs gentle reminders that the task at hand will benefit France: "Let me assure you that all officers and men in this Allied Force have been emphatic in their appreciation of the splendid spirit and valorous conduct of all French units throughout the campaign ... May the fall of Tunis and Bizerta be for the people of France the sign of their coming liberation."
