1. Autograph Letter Signed ("R.B. Hayes") to his Uncle Scott on family matters, 2 pp recto and verso, 4to, Columbus, OH, March 11, 1876, on State of Ohio Executive Department letterhead, some offset to lower right quadrant, dampstaining to lower margin.
Hayes writes his uncle sending family news: "In an unguarded moment I told Webb he might drop the James and put in a middle name after Webb. The little rascal took Cook, and every place where there is room for his name in his books ... it now stands Webb Cook Hayes."
2. Autograph Note Signed ("R.B. Hayes") as President, 1 p, 2 3/4 x 4 1/2 inches, Washington, March 18, 1878, to Judge James M. Carter, on Executive Mansion notecard: "I would be glad if young Carter could have a better place or promotion."
