TYLER, JOHN. 1790-1862.

Autograph Letter Signed ("J. Tyler") as President, to his Secretary of the Treasury ordering him not to give an administrative position to one of his critics, 1 p, 4to, [Washington, n.d. but 1843-44], with integral autograph address leaf addressed to the Secretary of the Treasury John C. Spencer, mild creasing and age-toning, reinforcement at center horizontal fold to p 1, small loss at p 2 from original seal.

A petty and vindictive note sent in order to quash a critic's ambition: "There is a man by the name of Collins (an Irishman) of this City who was been abusing me for some time past in a most shameful manner. I learn that he is an applicant for a clerkship—be on your guard agst him."
